Let there be light

From the smallest chandeliers to little
wall sconces the current trend on lighting is to treble up. Super cute smallish pendants from flea market finds to the high street are uber cool when hung in multiples.  Source the lowest wattage for a truly cosy winter. And remember the energy saving bulbs to cut the ever increasing electric bills and help the environment to boot.

Raise the bar

It’s not all about splurging on big investment pieces that make the difference. With the current climate,  trends this Autumn/Winter are looking at decorative, inexpensive solutions that are high on statement and low on the pocket. For an easy decorative, eye-catching way of adding zing to your space go down the stripe route. From small to large scale, mix and match stripes from accessories such as cushions, vases and throws to give your home a well-travelled, highly individualised look.

Shaggy area rugs are hot

Not those awful carpets of the 60’s and 70s – but fun, highly textural, cut down to size, little shaggy rascals that instantly glam up an area. Under a dining table, by a foyer entrance, in a bathroom – stunning.

Think chunky, knobbly, silky, pure wool or felt fabrics woven into zany, eye-catching designs. Or if you want something a little simpler go for a bold colour such a deep rust orange or autumnal green. Floors have never looked so attractive.

Next big thing

Shutters are hot, blinds are not.

Fitting in with just about any décor, versatile and massively attractive be ahead of the game and pick up on this breaking style news. Available in a whole plethora of colours as well custom colours to match woodwork. Most suppliers will match to any of the well-known paint ranges like Farrow and Ball and Dulux. Shutters are available in a range of prices. MDF shutters and considerably cheaper than real wood. But if you like the real wood effect and durability it's worth the extra investment.

Anything goes

Old rules no longer apply – kitchens (and it’s a fact) are fusing, mixing and matching a myriad of styles. Now one big collage  - think an English cottage aga, mixed with sleek contemporary cabinets, teamed with a retro table and chairs.

You can even go one stage further and mix different styles of cabinets. Combine an ultra modern slate grey cabinet with a simple cream or white one.

Be Bold

All out bravery is required for this season's colour palette where the daylight is so much stronger. Sunshine pouring through the windows is blissful but it makes pale rooms and pastel shades look washed out. For maximum impact paint over your neutral like ecru/chalky walls with an intense palette of saturated chameleon colours. Called that because several different colour tones are mixed in – so at different times of day the paint takes on different tones and moods. Velvety and luminescent in low light, intense and powerful in strong light.

Wallpaper that dresses your home

Its back with a bang – wallpaper that
enlivens the senses think hand printed trompe loeil, photographic images and stand alone statement papers – all designed to impress.

Think 'Natural Habitat' this spring

With spring well on the way it’s all about being inspired by nature and all things natural.

This season's must have colours

Hues of the season have really been influenced by Montreal this year – cool flashes of green, yellow and blue with a dash of vibrant red and punches of black and white.
